Public Speaking Advice Pt. 3–Florida Real Estate School
Public Speaking Advice Pt. 3–Florida Real Estate School
Welcome to part 3 in Florida real estate school Larson Educational Services’ 3-part series on successful public speaking. Public speaking is a necessary skill for every professional, but real estate professionals must especially be adept speakers because garnering trust and confidence will help you increase your sales.
In this part we are going to focus on leadership and how successful public speakers present themselves as a leader.
The Confidence Factor
According to The Book of Lists, the number seven fear of American adults is death. Fear of heights ranks fourth. Number one is the fear of public speaking.
- You need to exude confidence – not cockiness or arrogance
- The confidence should come as the result of your understanding of detailed, open and honest feedback
- Remember, it’s not about YOU – it’s about THEM
“An individual who attempts an intellectual or physical task almost always succeeds. In fact, my studies show that those who make the attempt to do something succeed almost ninety-five percent of the time.” — Dr. Karen Horney, Psychologist
- Convert any outside pressure you feel to power. Think about doing great, not about problems.
- Your audience is depending on you to succeed.
- See every detail of the room, what you will wear, who will be there. Feel it. You will be great!
- Imagine success. Smile, sing, hum and make happy noises.
- Once you’ve prepared your presentation, it’s “Curtain going up!”
- It’s time for you to make a commitment
- Have fun! And when you nextStand Up and SPEAK your presentation may be the BEST you’ve ever made!

Public Speaking Advice Pt. 2–Florida Real Estate School

Welcome to part 2 in Florida real estate school Larson Educational
Services’ 3-part series on successful public speaking. Public speaking is a necessary skill for every professional, but especially real estate professionals must be adept speakers because garnering trust and confidence will help you increase your sales. In this part we are going to focus on energy and how successful public speakers present themselves energetically.
The Energy Factor
speakers, and the best communicators in the world: two-year olds.
“Nobody pays attention to a speech. But when you bring the energy up, when the listeners realize someone cares enough to communicate with them, their interest and retention always zoom. If you want to be memorable and persuasive, the primary variable is not your words, but your behavior.”
— Bert Decker, Author
1. Use your voice and vocal variety, plus motion and expression, to convey that you believe in what you are saying.
- Start your content with a bang! Get their attention immediately with enthusiasm and energy
- Never suggest anything negative. Be totally positive
- Present the objectives and benefit statements with confidence
- Avoid monotone. Make your voice deeper and richer, not “thin” and weak
- Repeat, rephrase and reinforce
- Give a straightforward answer but don’t get off track
3. Involve the audience–don’t just dispense information. Ask questions, don’t ask FOR questions.
- Drama: voice fluctuations, scream, whisper
- Eyes: expressive, don’t look away
- Movement: purposeful, authoritative, move forward
- Visual props: what do they do, see, hear
- Q&A: rhetorical questions, grab volunteer, use them in examples
- Humor: anecdotes, third party examples, no jokes!

Public Speaking Advice Pt. 1–Florida Real Estate School
Welcome to part 1 in Florida real estate school Larson Educational Services’ 3-part series on successful public speaking!
Public speaking is a necessary skill for every professional, but real estate professionals especially must be adept speakers because garnering trust and confidence will help you increase your sales.
In this part we are going to focus on the eye and how successful public speakers present themselves visually.
The Eye Factor
- The first step to establishing trust and credibility is to “speak” to the listeners’ eyes. Choreograph what they SEE!
- Dress appropriately. Concentrate especially around the face and the feet
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early
- Double check to be sure that supplies and equipment are in place and working
- Use the wide felt-tipped markers (primarily blue and black) to write your name on the whiteboard
- List the schedule on the board, including break times
- Upright posture and natural movement convey confidence. Stand tall with shoulders back and stomach in. Practice standing in the “ready” position – lean forward, flex knees, balls of your feet, hands and arms forward.
- Exude confidence when you greet people. Look in their eyes
- Make friends with the back row
- Smile a warm smile and use open gestures as you lay out the ground rules.
- Start the presentation on time
- Welcome the audience and introduce yourself. Answer the question “Why should I listen to you?”
- Make sure everyone is “on the right plane”
Follow this advice to better present yourself as an adept public speaker. Check back next time for part 2!

About Larson Educational Services:
Rick Larson, Larson Educational Services co-founder and manager, opened a real estate education company in 1979 in St. Paul, Minnesota, called PROSOURCE Educational Services. The business grew to include real estate, mortgage, appraisal, insurance, securities, contractor, home inspection and computer education.
In 2001, Rick, along with his partner, Joe Coyne, sold the business to Kaplan Professional Schools, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Washington Post.
He and his instructors have assisted more than 500,000 professionals to pass their exams and achieve their career goals in real estate, real estate appraisal, residential construction, insurance and mortgage loan origination.
In 2007, two of Rick’s five sons, David and Brad Larson, approached Rick and talked of starting up a family-owned education company. The only place they talked of operating the business was in Southwest Florida where they had spent countless winter breaks vacationing from school.
After finding a great location to build two classrooms in Royal Palm Square Shopping Center in Fort Myers in early 2008, Larson Educational Services offered its first Florida Real Estate Licensing class in November 2008, and has since added many new classes and has become very involved in all of the Southwest Florida communities. In March 2010, the Larson’s expanded by adding an additional classroom location at Horseshoe Park of Commerce in Naples, just North of the Naples Municipal Airport, and in February 2011, the Larson’s began offering courses in Sarasota at the SpringHill Suites, across the street from the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.
Happy Birthday to Rick Larson, Our Senior Instructor!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Time Management Tips–Florida Real Estate School
Florida Real Estate School Larson Educational Services is coming at you with some simple tips for time management.
In this video, we’re going to talk about time management.
The principles we’ll discuss in this video are especially important for real estate professionals, but they also apply to all aspects of your professional life.
Your first step when setting a goal is to assign blocks of time and deadlines for each task.
Remember to make a realistic estimate, expect the inevitable interruptions, and consider importance versus urgency when prioritizing tasks.
Next, create a daily to do list.
It’s a simple, but not necessarily easy task.
It is the most significant difference between people who are successful in their careers and those who are not.
And you need to schedule work days and days off. Also, remember to schedule face to face time with clients.
And schedule direct preparation time to:
Prepare a listing or buyer presentation
Or prepare marketing materials
Review market research and analysis.
You can also schedule time to review your budget and financial status.
Do these things to become more effective and efficient in your personal and professional life.
